Limiting Damage During A Commercial Flood

6/19/2020 (Permalink)

We understand the stress that comes with flooding in your business. Here are some helpful tips to help prevent potential damages before or during a flood!

  • Protect doorways or any other open gaps by putting sandbags in front or behind them. This will minimize the amount of water that forcefully enters your home.
  • Take photos or videos of flooding and report to your insurance. This will help you in the long run when trying to replace the items affected by the flood.
  • Move any valuables to a higher floor or elevate them from the floor not allowing water to touch them in any way.
  • Clean and clear gutters. This will allow water to more easily move and not get stuck around your home.
  • Keep up to date on the news of the flood using radio
  • Have a plumper install an interior or exterior backflow prevention valve to make sure there is no sewage backup during the flood.
  • Turn off water line to stop water from continually flooding your home (Helps only if that is the source of the flood).
  • If possible have a survival kit containing important documents, food, water, medications and a first aid kit in case you need to leave your home or stay indoors for an extended amount of time.
  • Open window in your home to help air move more freely. This will prevent pressure buildups or major changes in air flow.
  • Stay away from downed power lines and electrical wires.
  • Shut off electricity to prevent and short-circuits, malfunctions or electrocutions.
  • If advised to evacuate please do for the safety of your family and find higher ground to go to.
